Things that I've learned

I don't know about you but as soon as I got the October Ensign I read it in 2 days. It was just what I was needing. I love learning about the stories in the Book of Mormon. That is the only book that makes me feel guilty when I walk past it if I hadn't read it that day. Heavenly Father has given us 24 hours in a day to do what we want. Can't I take 30 min or so to read from his book? Yes, yes I can.
In this edition you will find time lines, promises, guides to studying and conversion stories on almost every other page. The faith that the people have in the gospel is so amazing. I'm going to go through a few of the things that really stuck out to me in this edition of the Ensign.

The Iron Rod
There are 3 groups in Lehi's dream that are trying to get to the Tree of Life. The 1st group are on their way and come across temptations of Satan. They wonder off and are lost. There is no mention of the iron rod because if you ignore or treat lightly the word of God you do not have access to that divine compass aka the iron rod. The 2nd group they pressed forward through the mist of darkness aka temptations and partook of the Tree of Life. But they were mocked by greatly dressed people in the Great and Spacious Building and they became ashamed, fell away and were lost. The 3rd group pressed forward continually holding to the iron rod and by the time they got to the Tree of Life they fell and partook of the fruit.
Now we know the reason the 1st group fell- temptations
the 2nd group perhaps they fell because they only sometimes they read and studied from the scriptures
the 3rd group stayed there perhaps because they diligently searched the scriptures and studied them. That saved the 3rd group from perishing.
It makes me think of what group I am in. Or what group I should be in. Well I for sure used to belong to the 2nd group but I'm striving to be in the 3rd. I started consistently reading from the Book of Mormon a while ago but not only that I write down in my journal after each chapter with my take on it and the story that it told to me. I know that sounds like a lot but I remember so much more and I know better where to find the stories. I'm in the book Helaman and going strong. I'm not saying this to boast or act like its easy. Its not. I worked hard to get where I am and continue to try and resist temptation to not read it. Because I know Satan knows what I'm doing and he doesn't want me to get there. I urge you to study and pray about this precious book. "You will find greater power to resist temptation. You will find the power to avoid deception. You will find the power to stay on the straight and narrow path...You will find life in greater and greater abundance..."
If there is any reason that you don't feel you can or want to read from Heavenly Fathers book that feeling is not coming from Him but from his adversary, Satan. He doesn't want you to learn and grow. Those are the most important times for you to grab that book and show Heavenly Father where your faith lies.
What group are you in?

Mason's 2!

We woke up Sunday morning to a 2 year old! And to start off the day he decided it was time to bring out the terrible 2's tantrums. oh the joy. Because of that we got to church 10 min late which put us out in the foyer while they were passing the sacrament. Then walks in the Prophet who also was having a birthday that day! We had no idea him and Mason shared the same birthday, and to have each other wave and smile at one another. A perfect way to start off church :)
When we got home we changed his crib to a toddler bed and gave him the new bedding, leaf over his bed, table and chairs along with the other gifts we bought for him prior to his b-day saying that it was going to be for his birthday but that never stops us from buying more. lesson maybe? learned. Alan's cousins bought him a little grocery cart which he is stoked over, he loves to push the cart when we are at the store. Grandma and Grandpa Wilson gave him $30 to help buy a rug for the room and Grandma Rose gave him a leap frog movie and book.
He slept in his new bed all night in the wrong direction :) We couldn't help but sneak a few peaks. legs hanging off the side, so cute. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MASON!!!

Learning How To Sew

Let me emphasize the word LEARNING. It is a totally different language to me. I have to talk some of the instructions through with Alan so it makes more sense with what I'm doing. There is this great book I'd like to get called 1-2-3 Sew! It gives you 11 chapters with 3 projects to do per chapter to master a new skill, it even comes with patterns. Which is totally unlike what I've been doing lately. No patterns just reading off a piece of paper to try and figure it out and pray that after its sewn its going to be the right size. I started with a blanket and I ended up needing a walking foot for my machine ( I thought it was going to bust my needle and break my machine) so I had to stop until I get it in the mail. The next is a dress I made from one of Alan's old dress shirts he never wore. And last is a case I made for Mason to use during sacrament meeting that holds paper and colored pencils. As you can tell I use a lot of the same fabric. That's because I'm a freaking genius and ordered like 5x the amount of fabric I really needed for the blanket. But it worked in my favor so I could try all the new things. (and yes I still have a ton of fabric left :))
So if any of you dear friends know of easy fun things to sew let me know. I'd like to try more! Thanks girls!

A Biking We Will GO!

Mason has a new bike! We got him a new Strider Bike with a matching (wtg alan on the matching) helmet and he is sooo cute! Alan brought home the bike and helmet today from work and mason hasn't seemed to like the helmet very much, in fact he hates it. But little M isn't allowed to ride with out it. He did smile for me so I could take a picture. Here is the first day on the Strider!

Happiness through Selflessness and Obedience

I was reading in the Ensign last week when I came upon a topic that struck me in more ways then one. Realizing that I am at fault and so are many parents that are in the church that seem to get caught up in the ways of the world. I always say that I could never of been a pioneer because of all the sacrifices they had to make along with the trek they endured. But the honest truth is the same is being asked of us as parents. I have found myself living my life day to day figuring out ways that I can be alone/find myself with out little M pulling at my finger, climbing all over me, hitting me with something, making him food, cleaning up his messes and making sure Alan is taken care of too. I've been doing it all wrong. Just like the Pioneers were asked to make sacrifices so have I. I've been justifying ways to say that I need to have my own time/find myself by sneaking off while mason is playing to go on FB or play a Sudoku game or browsing the internet. Instead I should be playing with little M and doing better with my duties as a mother/wife.
In the Ensign is says, "Selfishness in any degree weakens the bonds that hold families together." Don't get me wrong I do play with little M and I do try and keep my house clean, laundry done etc. But I do find myself sneaking off way more then I should. "...messages we constantly hear in media entertainment, and advertising sound like this: "Your number one. Do your own thing. Your special. Find yourself." Such messages are so pervasive that we unconsciously absorb them and sometimes repeat them. Yet they are diametrically opposite from the message of the Savior..."He that findeth his life shall lose it:and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it""
I have become lazy in my duties and I know Heavenly Father gives us things like the Ensign to help us remember who we are and what we are supposed to do in our lives. I hope that now that I've been reminded I can stay reminded and help grow my family the way that Heavenly Father intended.

4 Years Ago Today

I married my sweet handsome husband 4 years ago today!!! He has been by my side through thick and thin. We have had such a great time together growing and learning how to raise a family. He always surprises me when I least expect it. Like last night/early morning he came in with a cute little photo printer, paper and ink so I can finish my scrapbooking at home :) I'm soooo excited about it! I've been wanting this for a long time. Alan Hates to be dressed up and clean shaven but he does it for me with out complaint (most of the time lol). He is always happy and full of energy! And I mean FULL of energy! He has always been willing to go with my ambitions and let me be creative so I can still be me to my full potential. He thinks I'm more beautiful when I think I look my ugliest. He loves our little boy with all his heart. I love to watch him be a daddy. He is so smart!!! He soaks up everything he learns. And he only has to be told once on how to do it. His knowledge of the scriptures is so impressive. If I ask him where a story is in the scripture he knows exactly where it is most of the time down to the right page. It blows my mind. If you give him one word that has to do with one of the 10 commandments he will tell you which one it is. I could go on and on about the things I love about Alan. Thank you Alan for the most amazing 4 years of my life. I LOVE YOU!!!!!

Mason's First Hair Cut

Well it's about freaking time huh?! He has needed a hair cut for soooo long. I mean I did cut his hair plenty of times before in the back so he wouldn't be rocking a curly mullet. His hair is stick straight on top but a cute baby curl in the back. I always saw babies with one lock of long hair longer compared to the rest of the hair and I always wondered why in the crap do they let that grow out!!! Its so wrong. Babies are so much cuter with out it! (of course just my opinion). So after many a day convincing myself that was not Mason (because I would try and hide it by parting his hair on the side) I decided I couldn't handle it any longer! Needless to say it was quite the challenge to keep him still. He is his daddies little boy and has to keep moving. But I bought a shaver that is made just for little boys and its super quiet and has a great shield on it so no nicks and cuts when he is running around. I cut about 2 inches off (ya like I said, It's about freaking time). And for a boy that seems like a lot to me! Here are some pics of that blessed event.....

Alan thought it would be great to just vacuum off the excess hair on his head and what fell oh his shoulders

the finished product :) sorry not the greatest picture but the best I got with him running around

Precious Moments

I walked into the living room and found little M had pushed his chair from his room to watch t.v. He grabbed himself a snack he didn't finish at lunch and his favorite stuffed animal, plopped down and got caught up into the Cat in the Hat. I couldn't help but grab the camera :) He looked sooo tired. Little M never stops moving so this was a moment I didnt want to pass up.

Weekend with the Girls

This last weekend I went with my cousin Jody and her kids to go see her sister Jana in NV. It was so fun to get away and have a little girl time. Mom's you know what I mean, we all need it every once in a while. I left Mason at home with his daddy so they had a lot of " Male Bonding". Us girls did some shopping and I found some sweet deals on a dress and shirt and best of all I broke down and bought a purse! This would be the 2nd purse I've ever bought, Yes I know that sounds lame but I'm cheap and could never get myself to pay the money on the ones I thought were cute enough to buy.

Isn't it cute!!!! Green is my favorite color and my cousins thought it was totally me, and I have to say it is! I look at it and it makes me grin :D
We also played 7 games of skippo, it is my favorit game. But I had a winning streek going on I think because I won 5 of those games. I felt so bad it almost became not fun to play with winning all the time. But they were good sports about it and always delt me in. On sunday after church Jody got out a craft that we all made for St. Patties Day.

I think it turned out pretty darn cute! Thanks Jody for bringing the stuff to make the craft and Jana for being so awesome and always opening your doors to us freezing Utah chillins. Love you both thanks for a great weekend!!!

5 New Posts!!!!!

I've been such a slacker!!! Here are all the things that have gone on in the last few months that I haven't posted until now. Get ready.......

Valentines Craft

This V-Day I wanted to come up with some thing a little more personal. Of course what a better way then to blogstock. I found this cute idea on Dating Diva's. And I think it turned out pretty cute! Mason and I went to Alan's work and heart attacked his office and left him that on the door. He said he hasn't been that suprised in a really long time. Wahoo, go us!! Inside each cup is a reason why I love him. Can't get more personal than that!

BFF's

Mason and Malia. These two are little partners in crime. Except its more like they do it to each other. They love to steal each others toys and blankets and sippy cups. They teach each other what they don't know yet. They are so cute when they play together and share. Its so funny because when they want to steal something they look at you first to make sure you aren't looking and if you are they do it really fast and try to take off running, well Mason more waddles and trips.

Mason's Bath Time and Crazy Hair

Can you say HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!! I love this little crazy man! Everyone who knows Mason knows that he has about a gazillion expressions and some are so cute and some are just right down funny. And here are some great examples of the funny. Mason's favorite time is bath time. So I like to just get him washed and let him play for the rest of the time so I don't have to fight him when he wants to splash and get me all wet. Well I thought it would be a good idea to try and dry his hair a little with a rag so he wouldn't be so cold and maybe want to play a little longer..... I did it super fast and I just couldn't get my self to comb it back down :)

My Favorite!

Masons 1st Birthday

Well first of all we had Mason's B-day planned on his birthday but of course he woke up with a bad cold and cough. (I swear our family with colds never ends, buh!) I ended up canceling it not wanting to get anyone elses child sick. And it was a great day outside :( It was posponed for about a month because we all got sick one after the other. So it was chilly and it got dark real quick. I planned the wrong theme for sure! I had a monkey party since it depicks Mason to the T. But EVERY single present was a truck or car. Not that I'm complaning, he loves them its just funny how things work out. Mason loved the cake which I was planning on giving to him so I didn't put very much frosting on it but it was so huge so we just gave him the foot. Poor people who ate the cake didn't get hardly any frosting ha ha ha. But I did make cup cakes! So at least I'm not a total idiot. We ended up going inside and hanging out and the boys ( meaning our husbands) played with one of the trucks my parents gave him and looked like they all wanted to take it home ha ha ha ha their faces were so inthrawled ha ha ha boys inside will never grow up. Mason recieved about 10 trucks that day. Way to go my little man!!! Happy Birthday!!!

Christmas 2010

We had a great Christmas this go around except for the fact that Alan was deathly sick with one of the worst colds and crud I've seen him have. But he made the best of it which made it so much better than it could of been. We at first had a budget of 50 bucks for each other and 100 for Mason.... so much for that! we both well out did our budget and it made for an exciting time unwrapping all we thought we weren't getting. Mason had so much fun unwrapping all of his presents and all of ours too :) He got the hang of it REAL quick! But unfortunately that is all on video instead. It was funny because I think Mason had more fun with the wrapping paper then he did his toys :)
